Charity Plumbing Finds a Way to Help
At times, the life of a plumber is humbling. We don’t know what is going to happen on a service call. That’s what happened when we were called to the home of Family X.
It was a relative who contacted us to come out and look at the family’s plumbing. Not only was the plumbing rotted out at the drain system, but bugs had infested the home, which is not surprising as plumbing leaks are notorious for attracting insects. There was also considerable damage to the house.
Illness and vandalism
What we discovered was that the parents had to send two of their three children to live in Colorado when their third child, an eight-year-old with type 1 diabetes, had fallen into a coma and was in Phoenix Children’s Hospital. During that time, the home was broken into, damaged, and vandalized. Between the vandalism, water damage, and insects, the home was nearly destroyed. It was clear the family needed way more than a little plumbing. They needed someone to put their home to rights so they could focus on their little girl. They needed Charity!
Some of us got together from different trades and pitched in to help.
Help along the way
First, the bugs had to be bombed. It took five professional bombings until the home was finally bug-free. That was a huge victory.
Also, Yesenia’s House Cleaning scrubbed and cleaned for sixteen hours.
Our friends at FHP Builders sent two guys for two days, as well as paying for a roll-off dumpster. Not only did they install sheetrock, tape, and spackle, but they replaced the broken front door and broken front window. Vets For Hire then textured the sheetrock.
The relative had purchased new cabinets for the kitchen and bath. Those were installed for free by Revamp Renovations.
We here at Charity Plumbing removed the destroyed furniture and moldy sheetrock. Then we installed new plumbing and plumbing fixtures and plumbing cleanouts in the backyard and cleaned it up so the kids would have a nice place to play when they came home.
More than just plumbing
After we primed and painted the home, we bought electrical fixtures and hired our friends at Chuck Norris Electrical to install them. Then, we added some new furniture, and Yesenia’s Cleaning came back to put finishing touches on for four hours.
It took two and a half weeks for everyone to finish the work.
Because we are Charity
We are deeply humbled to have been a part of this phenomenal experience, for the massive amounts of help, love, and support provided by everyone, including efforts by FHP Builders, Revamp Renovations, Vets for Hire, Chuck Norris Electrical, and Yesenia’s House Cleaning Service. Without the help of all of these beautiful people, the job couldn’t have gone as smoothly as it did or had the incredible outcome it did. We want to extend our thanks to those who helped but are unnamed here, as well.
For anyone who thinks the things they do don’t make a difference, it’s situations like this, when a plumbing cleanout opens the door to changing lives, in which we can find the means to help others when they’re in an intractable position.
